Surrounded by the mighty Aoraki Mt Cook, with magnificent views, and steps away from the Tasman Glacier, our alpine hostel blends comfort and excitement.
After a day of taking on the rugged mountain terrain, relax and soak up the natural surroundings, with a sauna, and our backyard with mountain views!
You’ll be able to recharge and refuel for tomorrow’s adventures in our warm and inviting living areas complete with guitars and games, as well as a free sauna.
Think log cabin vibes, but with a Haka twist!
Here you'll be among like-minded guests who tend to rise early to make the most of the epic walks and scenery on offer.

The outdoor terrace and a garden area are our favourite spots, where you can catch epic mountain views while you relax or get to know fellow explorers.
If you’re looking to chill out and unwind, we’ve got some sweet facilities for you to do just that, including a sauna, a yoga and stretching room, a co-working space and a super comfy lounge area that’s full of natural light.
There is no supermarket anywhere close by, so please bring your food and drink with you before, and can use our guest kitchen.

Our convenient location puts you just steps away from all the activities that Aoraki Mt Cook has to offer.
Thanks to our location in an International Dark Sky Reserve, the stargazing here is out of this world. Imagine standing under a blanket of stars so bright you feel like you could reach out and touch them. That’s the kind of experience we offer at Haka House Aoraki Mt Cook.
Easy access to the Alps 2 Ocean cycle trail.
Timaru Airport is a 2.5-hour drive away.
Chamois Bar and Grill, The Panorama Restaurant and The Sir Edmund Hillary Cafe & Bar are all a 10-minute walk away. No supermarkets close by!
You can go walking, mountaineering, kayaking, skiing, boating, scenic flying and stargazing in the surrounding areas.

Unfortunately, our hostel does not have suitable disability access.
Shared Room Exceptions for Unaccompanied Under 18’s in Groups:
Unaccompanied under 18’s are not allowed to stay in shared rooms, unless they are part of a group that has booked out the entire shared room.
The group leader must provide the required documentation to Haka House.

In times of uncertainty and your peace of mind, we recommend you select a flexible rate with free cancellation. If your plans change, you can always cancel free of charge until the cancellation expires.
We require valid ID on check-in in the form of a driver’s licence or passport.
All reservations must be guaranteed with a valid credit card at the time of booking.
We pre-authorize all credit cards on the day of booking to check for validity and sufficiency of funds.
Guide dogs, hearing dogs, and dogs for those who are disabled, are permitted. Otherwise, we have a strict no pets policy.
Individuals under the age of 18 can only stay at the Hostel when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian in the same room.
The room must be private. No Dorm Rooms allowed.
Towels are included for private rooms, for shared dorms, they can be rented at reception, or you can bring your own.
Lockers for the shared dorms can be bought at the front desk.
